Clunes Ceramic Award 2015:

An exhibition of Australian art

This year, Clunes will yet again open its doors to artistic expression when the small Goldfields town hosts the Clunes Ceramic Award. A major event on the national ceramics calendar, with prizes totalling $13,000 and entries now coming in from all over Australia.

As an addition to the main exhibition this year, businesses in the main street of Clunes will host individual pieces from local ceramicists.

Ceramic Award Chair, Graeme Johnstone said "This is an exciting addition to the Exhibition this year, where artists from across the shire and surrounding region will be asked to submit their pieces for display in local businesses in the main street of Clunes. A map will be available for visitors to view the works situated in selected retail shops. We anticipate around 10-15 such retail shops will take part in this. All pieces will be for sale to the public".

At the main exhibition this year, the winning artist's work will attract a total prize money of $10,000, a significant increase from previous years.

Ceramic Award Chair Graeme Johnstone said "This significant increase is testament to the sustained success of the Clunes Ceramic Award in Australia, as well as demonstrating the sponsors' confidence in the strength of work submitted by Australian ceramic artists.

"The People's Choice Award has also increased to $2,000 and three $250 Recognition Awards will be presented and announced at the exhibition opening.

"We are grateful to our sponsors at the Union Bank Arts Centre and Lucky Strike Lounge in Clunes for the significant increase in prizes and for their support of this event."

A preview of works will be held on the evening of Friday 18 September. The exhibition itself opens on Saturday 19 September, continuing until Sunday 11 October.

The Clunes Ceramic Award is an acquisitive prize. In 2015, the winner of the $10,000 Award will be acquired by the Art Gallery of Ballarat.

The winning work of art is acquired in alternate years, by the Art Gallery of Ballarat and the Castlemaine Art Gallery and Historical Museum for their Permanent Collections.

Ceramicists can find the Conditions of Entry at the ceramic Award website www.clunesceramicaward.com.au. Entries are accepted online.

The Clunes Ceramic Award is an initiative of Creative Clunes Inc. and is in partnership with the Art Gallery of Ballarat and the Castlemaine Art Gallery and Historical Museum.
